Participation in Talent Week

Collaboration between the Unit of Graduate Students at the Home Economics Department and the Talents’ Center at the Department of Education in Zulfi. On Sunday and Monday 26-27/05/1437 in the Sports Hall of the 14th Elementary School, the Talent Program has been launched from 8:00 m to 12:00 pm. Members of the Faculty and graduate students have taken part in the program through the establishment of professional corners: 1- The Sewing Corner: trainees were taught the foundations of sewing and hand embroidery in order to acquire repairing and decorating skills. The most important basic skill is the running stitch (simple-decorative), fullback stitch (professional hand sewing), hemstitch (apparent and blind), simple embroidery (chain, catch and stem stitch), sewing various buttons, clips, snaps and zippers. 2- The Fashion Design Corner. The trainees were taught the basic methods of fashion design and different patterning of clothes then the coordination of colors according to the design and the material. 3- The Recycling Corner: the trainees were taught to recycle the old fabrics and recycle them creatively to suit the modern fashion. Also, they were trained on painting using Decoupage water colors on several pieces such as ceramics, paintings, antiques and utensils. 4- Knitwear and Crochet Corner: this corner introduced the trainees to the making of several knitwear fabrics using crochet and knitting as well as (bags and wallets) in addition to bracelets of thread and training trainees on making them. 5- Nutrition Corner: the trainees were taught in this corner to calculate the ideal body weight by knowing the weight and height of a person. Then trainees learned how to calculate the needed calories for each person, and then determine their suitable diet. Several guidelines concerning good eating habits and healthy behavior were given to trainees. A special bag and brochures were distributed to the corner visitors who came from many schools in addition to the director of the Talent Center in Kassim and Ghat. On Monday, the Governor of Majmaah and the Director of the Department of Education in Majmaah attended the event, which aimed at training students on practical and professional skills at young age. The corners were designed and carried out by the graduate students and faculty members at the College of Education in Zulfi: Ms. Nora Al-Muhtarish, Dr. Zeinab Al-Khateeb, Dr. Mona Al-Damanhori, Dr. Manal Jwedah, Ms. Mueera Al-Thanian, Ms. Mona Al-Dafas, Ms, Hissa Al-Tawala, Ms. Lama Al-Tariki, Ms. Reham Al-Muhtarish and Ms. Reem Al-Hidan.
